The question is sometimes posed, "What are the riches of Kalahari?" The first response is probably the most correct: the most valuable part of Kalahari is its people. Whether we speak of the King or the lowliest slave, the creativity and initiative of its people provide Kalahari with its true value.
But kingdoms like our own must survive also on other types of wealth. Most Kalaharians are not familiar with the workings of the Mine and the Farm, but the reality is, the production of both of these economic engines drives our economy. The Farm animals and crops provide us with the food and trade goods that insure our high standard of living.
The ore mined (gold, copper, iron) provides us with the raw materials to keep our infrastructure up to date, and gives us the capital that allows the King to provide us with outstanding medical care, free housing, and such cultural treasures and architectural wonders as the original Belly Dance Temple.
To make the Mine such a thriving concern, Minister Magdy (who also supervises the Farm) relies on a group of muscular men known as the Mine slaves. While most Kalaharians go about their daily business unaware of what goes on deep in the bowels of the earth, these powerful but controlled and tamed slaves spend long hours every day in the hard physical labor which is the only means of gathering our wealth from the earth. Tavern Manager Cindy prepares large quantities of tasty gruel to power these animals, and Magdy holds them to tough physical standards.
Here, Minister Afraa visits slave Joey, slave Fluffy and head slave Abu at the Mine.
Slave Bande learns how obedience sometimes means a gentle touch, not just the hard swing of a pickaxe.
And slave Henry the Exhibitionist works with dreams of gruel dancing in his head.
Occasionally, however, there are slave problems at the Mine. But they are quickly and fairly dealt with. Just the other day, slave Bande thought he could lead a strike at the Mine! Can you imagine: a slave union??!! At any rate, slave Bande was given some "cage time" by Minister Afraa, to reflect on his foolish ideas! Such arrogance!
MINISTER MAGDY THE MAGICIAN!
And we must make note of Minister Magdy, Supervisor of the Mine and the Farm, but also a powerful magician! Minister Magdy, alone among all those alive during these medieval times, is able to make a copy of himself, an almost divine talent! He is thinking he might call it "cloning," but we predict that name will never catch on. ahahaha!
When this reporter viewed the amazing magical power the Minister possesses, she suggested he "clone" two men (of course many women in Kalahari should be cloned.) We suggested he make 10 copies of himself, and 20 copies of slave Abu. The Minister has this suggestion under advisement.
ANOTHER ADVANCE IN KALAHARI SCIENCE: SLAVE REENA'S INVENTION
Minister Magdy is not the only inventor in the Kingdom. Taking to heart the King's desire for creativity and initiative to be hallmarks of the Kingdom, slave reena has invented a vehicle that flies like a bird. Nowhere else in the world could possibly have such a brilliant contraption, because not only does reena's vehicle allow a person to soar like an eagle, it is powered by hot air, of which there is a plentiful supply in the Kingdom! The King himself has promised to supply enough fuel for the first year of flight. ahahaha.

We had some excitement at the Landing the other day. Minister Afraa al Abid, realizing she was the only person awake in the Kingdom, was patrolling the seashore, ready to raise the alarm and repel any invasion by hostile forces on land, sea, or air.
Suddenly, in the hazy distance, the Minister noticed a tiny dot on the horizon. As it grew closer, Afraa discerned the shape of a canoe, being carried slowly on the tide toward the Landing. Memories of her own arrival at Kalahari--on a canoe, half naked, taken into custody by the head slaver at the time, caged naked for 30 days by order of the King--flooded back.
When the canoe came to a gentle halt against the Landing, Afraa saw one man in the canoe, dehydrated, but otherwise in good condition. After helping him ashore, and giving him numerous flasks of water, Afraa discovered the identity of the traveler.
He is Tmarques Habana, the Head of state of Quilombo dos Palmares, a tribal country which declared its independence from the Portuguese colonial empire, and is located near Brazil!
As a Head of State, President Habana receives the warmest of welcomes in the Kingdom, and is under the personal protection of King Hassan Ibn Trrrol. While here, the President intends to set up diplomatic relations with Kalahari, so that a friendly association and possible trade may result.
BELLY DANCE IN THE KINGDOM
As the belly dance is evidently still under the supervision of the Entertainment Ministry, Minister Afraa al Abid has been seeking outstanding dancers. By chance last night, while she was disciplining slave tally yet again (ahaha), the Minister discovered two new slave dancers who show promise, and welcomed back an old slave friend of the King's. Together with tally, these three provided an excellent display of the belly dance.
Slave rosa Melnik, an old friend of the King visited us, soon followed by newcomers slave Kate and slave poorlittlerichgirl. Taking the opportunity to use the usually useless underling tally for something productive, the Minister set her the task of training these three into some semblance of a dance team, never thinking much would result. After all, these were only four slaves.
Well, we congratulate tally and her three sister slaves! (and we remind ourselves this was wrong presumption #1765 by Afraa) With almost no practice, the four slaves meshed together brilliantly, and danced as if they were sisters in passion.
With that outstanding performance, tally earned more experience as a supervisor of other slaves. Her training methods seem a bit unorthodox, but do seem to be working. Here, we see tally's training methods imposed on slaves Kate and poorlittlerichgirl.

ROYAL COUPLE ENJOY NEW SLAVE ADDITIONS TO THE KINGDOM
As the final confirmation of slave tally's ability, Minister Afraa invited the Royal Couple, along with Dr. Eagor, to view slave Kate in the Belly Dance Temple, and a new addition, slave Mminoo.
It is no exaggeration to state that the Royal Couple approved of the slaves and of their progress so far. And it must be admitted, the girls DID perform beautifully.
In fact they brought the King out of his seat to perform a few dance moves himself, bad back be damned! (At least we THINK it was some dance moves. ahahaha)
The King even allowed the slaves the honor of posing with him!
So, the Kingdom seems to be thriving with new slaves.

His Highness has moved storytelling from the Entertainment Ministry to the Palace. In his first move. he appointed Palace-slave-to-be Jo to the Tavern for his apprenticeship. You can see him here entertaining the Royal Couple.
