ROBERTA HONEY NAMED TAVERN MANAGER!

The hospitable and lovely Roberta Honey received a great honor the other day from a well-fed, and somewhat drunk King Hassan (ahahaha), who named her Tavern Manager. As the Manager of the Delicious Syrup, Roberta is not only charged with preparing meals every day, and delicious cuisine for special events, she also manages the Inn. She will, in addition, coordinate with Minister Magdy to procure the best of the Farm's produce for the kitchens, ably assisted by slave Abu at the Farm. Slave Julie Bright has already been most helpful at the Tavern.

From the beginning, Roberta has made good use of Abu in coordinating with the Farm

She is also broadening her abilities to host larger parties, and showed the King and Palace Slaves dara and Nada some of what she has accomplished.

She enlists slave Julie to help, and even pleased the well-known dining critic Emma Hedlund!

Roberta is also gaining experience in reacting quickly to a sudden change in schedule. The international slaver Amy Damster brought a new slave right from her ship to the Tavern so the King could make a decision about her.

Roberta quickly arranged for a proper viewing platform so the King and assorted dignitaries could make the proper evaluations of the new girl.

But the most valuable of Roberta's duties will be to welcome the many visitors who are now coming to Kalahari since the end of the Rebellion. These visitors arrive on our shores for many reasons and with assorted goals, hopes, and desires.

One traveler who sought refuge in Kalahari is Josie North, whose landing was accidental, but happy for a variety of reasons. Josie quickly showed herself a competent conversationalist, with a firm hand. Rumor has it that the King is quite taken with her, and stories abound that the King has found the Brothel Madame he has been seeking for so long. Is it possible Kalahari will join the modern world of the 16th century with an up-to-date and thoroughly contemporary "Welcome Center?"

The King, Roberta, Ministers Malika and Afraa, and the slave trader Lady Cianelle, all listen with rapt attention as Josie tells the tale of her exciting journey to Kalahari.

Later, Josie took a relaxing break in the steamy Bath House, where she carried on her conversation with Roberta and Afraa.

Another visitor closely linked to talk of the Brothel, and slave auctions in general, was the mysterious Sir Habib the Slave Trader. This impressive Arab man says more in silence, than many do in speech, and speculation is rampant as to the role he might play in the Kalahari slave trade. And not a few attractive free women leave the presence of Sir Habib very nervously, as they can't seem to forget how his dangerous brown eyes assessed them.

Another example of the powerful and dominant men in Arab culture is Sheik Ibn Ben Yusuf, whose murky past is somewhat balanced by his strong features, and traditional Arab wear. The Sheik has taken up residence near the Kalahari School, and many are the women who seem to pass by just to catch a glimpse of his dark countenance. His strict standards are such, however, that women are expected to visit clothed in the hijab, as proper Arab women. His lunch meeting with the King sparked another set of rumors, as peace takes hold in Kalahari, and the trading of valuable objects (like slaves?) resumes.

The Sheik seems to have encountered at least one Arab woman in Kalahari, who meets his high standards of proper behavior for a girl among men, as Afraa observed when the Sheik addressed Miss Noura, who is under the guidance of Sayedi Qutb, and the protection of Minister Malika.

Another intriguing voyager who joined the Kingdom is Sir Issac Mekhi-Mahalah, a sophisticated gentleman who exudes a confidence not often found in a man so young. But just as Sir Habib, and Sheik Ibn Ben Yusuf, he is reticent in discussing his past, though he must be a person of some standing, as he enjoyed a private audience with King Hassan.

And finally, we have glad tidings of joy as birth and life takes hold in a Kingdom so recently shattered by war and death. The lovely slave Abla has produced a son  Fares to join her daughter Maryam, both fathered by her Lord and Master MRKINGBE. Minister Malika will have her hands full in a house filled with the laughter and liveliness of children!
