TALES OF KALAHARI!

IN HONOR OF THE FIRST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OF

KING HASSAN IBN TRRROL AND QUEEN DARA KHSAN IBN TRRROL

TO BE CELEBRATED ON SATURDAY, 30 JUNE 2018

In the course of their first year of wedded bliss, Queen Dara has grown even more intelligent, beautiful, elegant, sophisticated and compassionate, though with a strong will.

King Hassan has errr grown a year older.

Together, they rule over the most prosperous and peaceful Kingdom in this part of the world. Over the next two weeks, the Chronicles will examine the Kingdom these enlightened monarchs guide, and the people who make up this marvelous land.

MILITARY AND ROYAL GUARD

Though King Hassan has kept Kalahari on a peaceful course in a violent world, even Kalahari sometimes needs the services of Royal Guards or soldiers. In fact, there is a rich military tradition in the Kingdom, starting with the mythic warrior Princess Prith, the elder sister of King Hassan, who often led the forces of the Kingdom into battle.

founded the Royal Guard and trained them,

and did many other nearly impossible tasks, including instructing the King in military skill.

This is a sword. Sharp. Be careful!

But in peacetime, soldiers and Guards are not as important as in times of turmoil. So, for an interval, the military machine of Kalahari has fallen into disrepair, as the few enemies of Kalahari fell into disarray, or disappeared from the face of the earth.

King Hassan, realizing that the Kingdom's defenses needed strengthening, moved to construct a state-of-the-art fort,

and searched for a fitting military successor to Princesses Prith and Livia.

His eye fell upon James Ihardi, whose judgment was shown first to the King by his successful wooing and wedding of the radiant Lady Samaira Valentina.

James has begun his term as Commander of the Royal Guard with good intentions, and has at least placed noted criminals under lock and key, thereby protecting the Kingdom.

THE ENEMIES OF KALAHARI
CRIMINALS, ABDUCTORS ASSASSINS

King Hassan's clever diplomacy, led by the beautiful, intelligent, gifted, sophisticated, did I say beautiful Minister Afraa al Abid (ahahahaha), has managed to keep possible enemies of Kalahari weak and confused. In particular, the aggressive Emirate of Kuwar, which once threatened Kalahari, has disappeared into the mists of history because of the mismanagement of its misguided military leader Daria Romanova, who behind the back of the magnificent Emir Hussein, attempted to cause distress to the Kingdom.

Even though hostile kingdoms and emirates and sultanates do not at present threaten Mamlakat Kalahari, there remain enemies of the state who are perhaps more dangerous because more hidden, less visible, difficult to identify, and greedy for power, wealth, and land.

Some possible criminals may curry favor even with the King under the guise of friendship.

Other criminals ply their trade in the open, expecting that bribes, lies and betrayal, will gain them their goals

Another threat to the Kingdom lay in a different direction. Having failed in rebellion once before, Halim the Rebel might always attempt another violent takeover.

Finally, Kalahari must be vigilant against the seductive nature of some of the threats posed to our peace. An instance of that would be Randy Quander, a sometime Ambassador of Meyonia, whose sly and erotic methods make her difficult to defend.

PRISON

Given the threat posed by hostile nations, as well as dangerous criminals, the King has wisely provided prisons, where criminals might be rehabilitated, and become worthwhile members of society.

An early version of the prison shows that, while security was good, the facilities for "rehabilitation" were limited. While the old facility was useful,

the energetic leadership of Prison Manager Stephanie Brown resulted in the construction of New Kalahari Prison, as part of the large capital project the King undertook to construct the Government Building.

and Sir Husam and Tina Wo took the opportunity to make use of the facilities to "rehabilitate" Sonia Tairov.

Lady Samaira, Stephanie, and Afraa welcomed the first prisoner to the facility: not surprisingly it was Ehline, daughter of Thorgrim.

Many Kalaharians have contributed to this monumental construction, including Lady Nilasso, who added several furnishings to the site, and also modeled how she felt prisoners might be displayed as part of their punishment.

MEDICAL

Knowing that medical care would be necessary, not just because of military action or criminal attacks, but for the health and welfare of all Kalaharians, the King has tirelessly provided the facilities and resources necessary to maintain the good health of his people.
