TRIAL OF THE YEAR IN KALAHARI!

MINISTER AFRAA AL ABID CONVICTED!

SUSPENDED FROM HER MINISTRY POST FOR THREE DAYS!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trial of Afraa al Abid: Attendees:

King Hassan ibn Trrol (Prosecutor), Queen Dara ibn Trrrol,
Ambassador Yasemin Engelhardt (Judge),
Queen Nathalie of Romania, Prison Manager Stephanie Brown,
Lady Samaira Valentina, Commander Sheik James El Kalaharian,
Bath House Manager Diana Geesink, Garden Manager Nilasso,
Garden Girls Tina Wo, Willow, Motiaa,
Assistant Tavern Manager Solondra, Sir BudRyan,
Sir Bill LeBrave of the Lost Jungle of the Maya, Sir Rambo,
and Minister Afraa al Abid (Defendant.)

Judge Yasemin von Engelhardt

An excited crowd had already gathered at the Kalahari Justice Centre by the time Prison Manager Stephanie Brown escorted her prisoner, Minister Afraa al Abid, to that building. The Minister had been accused of attacking King Hassan ibn Trrrol, the Lion of the Desert, and barehandedly wounding him, and knocking him to the ground so that the Lion needed medical assistance from several women, and she was to stand trial before the Ambassador of Topkapi to Kalahari, and internationally respected fashionista, Yasemin von Engelhardt.

Alleged scratch wounds inflicted on King by Minister

Earlier in the day, the King had visited Afraa in her prison, and gave her an almond cookie for "her years of service to Kalahari!" He also detailed the lovely dinner he had claimed to share with Judge Yasemin the night before the trial.

Many Kalaharians, in disbelief at events, visited the prison managed by Stephanie Brown, and were impressed and perhaps somewhat intimidated by the spartan cells, and some of the instruments of torture available. Fortunately, Jailer Stephanie and assistant Tavern Manager Solondra provided enough food and drink so the prisoner did not suffer some horrible fate.

It was, therefore an angry, but weakened Minister who walked into the Court Room. Her pale appearance shocked onlookers who know Afraa as the lovely and talented Minister (affirmed by the author of this article, the very same lovely and talented Minister Afraa al Abid. (ahahahaha!)

Fortunately for the interests of Justice, King Hassan was only the Prosecutor on this day, while the trial was managed with a firm hand by Judge Yasemin. And Afraa's spirits were bolstered by the appearance of two old. friends, Sir Bill LeBrave of the Lost Jungle of the Maya, and Sir Rambo.

Kalaharians at the Trial

Judge Yasemin began the trial: "Salaam, Your Majesty, King Hassan Ibn Trrrol, greetings all citizens from Kalahari. We are here today for the trial of Minister Afraa al Abid, who is accused of clawing the King due to some recent tragic events which occurred the last days. I will lead this trial as a fair, impartial judge, as everyone is expecting so. First to speak in front of us is His Majesty as the rules are, therefore I declare the trial opened. Allah be with us!"

The King had clearly been tutored by a wise legal mind, and he aggressively opened his case by laying out his legal argument:

“As a prosecutor of this court I have to explain the charges against the imprisoned Minister. The charge against Afraa al Abid, Minister of this land is:

Assault on her superior, resulting in serious injuries, that could have been lethal without the quick aid of Ehline, fiancé of Dr Ali and later of Abukir, his majesty’s slave.

On January 4th, during a cheerful party at the Kalahari docks, Minister Afraa suddenly ignited in blind rage; kicked her superior King Hassan 1st of Kalahari, the Mighty and the Good, also known under the name Lion of the Desert. After several foul hits, she clawed her hands and started to scratch the face and back of the King. By protecting his face with both hands, King turned the assault to his back and after several dramatic minutes he fell unconscious to the ground.

Without further help he would have bled to dead on that spot. Luckily the knowledgeable Ehline rushed to the front pushed the other people away from the starving King and managed to treat the blood flow just in time for him to survive. With his last words, King Hassan has called his guards and ordered them to arrest Afraa, which was done without any complication.

There were several witnesses that can testify the assault and could see the awful wounds that were caused by Afraa’s attack. Based on this knowledge, the prosecutor in this case of the Kingdom of Kalahari against Afraa al Abid proposed life imprisonment and daily working in the mines for the accused. During this time the position of Minister will be held by another Kalaharian resident.”

The attendees hung on every word as the King painted a dark picture of an angry woman, who, with her bare hand*s, beat a bloodied Lion of the Desert into submission, to the point of death. They then looked at the pale, slender woman sitting in the prisoner's docket, and attempted to square her looks with the raging woman who furiously attacked her monarch.

Crowded Court Room

Defense Solicitor Samaira immediately struck back:

"I would like to call Afraa to the stand.

Afraa, would you describe yourself as overworked, underpaid and unappreciated by the King?"

Afraa al Abid "Overworked—definitely, Lady Samaira--over 230 issues of the Chronicles, numerous weddings and other events organized, welcoming visitors and so on."

(Trrrol Toll yawns)

Samaira Valentina nods sympathetically. "After so many years of loyal dedication and service to Kalahari that must be very disheartening."

Afraa al Abid: "Underpaid? NO: that would imply i received money and i never had a salary--i was NEVER paid Oh wait, the King came to my cell earlier today and gave me two almond cookies--he said payment for my time as Minister. Underappreciated--i will let Kalaharians decide that for themselves."

Motiaa: wow

Samaira Valentina: shakes her head at the King: "Shame!"

Trrrol Toll grins and takes a last cookie from his pocket and eats it

Judge Yasemin von Engelhardt looks at the King's gesture amazed

Samaira Valentina "I imagine you were tired and stressed at the end of a hard day when you went for one small drink to help you relax, would you tell us what happened when you arrived at the tavern?"

Afraa al Abid :Well, I was exhausted and had been arguing with the King all day. Even as we got refreshments from faithful Solondra we continued to argue so i DO bear some responsibility.

But in the whole time i have been in Kalahar,i the King knows my true love and separated husband, Emperor Augusto the Merciful of Iconia, is the only man I allow to touch me. So when he smacked my bottom something snapped and I must be honest I DID attack him, and did scratch his face and back before being overcome by the alcoholic fumes coming from his person."

“And it was not only his attack on me. He called ALL women of Kalahari ‘MEAT’ in a loud voice!”

Samaira Valentina shakes her head in shame at the King. “He called ALL women of Kalahari 'Meat'?”

Yasemin von Engelhardt raises her eyebrows and listens carefully

Afraa al Abid “All”

Samaira Valentina: “Surely, he didn't mean his own Good Queen Dara, or you Minister Afraa? Or Nada who arranges such festivals for us, or Stephanie who runs his prisons and mines, Nila and myself who run the Garden, Lady Malika, Elyssa who runs the tavern and cooks feasts, Roxe and Abla who work so hard on the farm and in the shop, the Godly women of Sanik and all the other wives, partners, dancers and pleasure girls he enjoys so frequently?”
.
Yasemin von Engelhardt thinks women-meat?

Afraa al Abid: “I was as shocked as you are Lady Samaira--though I think the only woman you mentioned that he has not insulted is good queen Dara-- she is a ruler above reproach”

Samaira Valentina: Shakes her head as she looks at the audience.

Samaira Valentina “So he assaulted your person and insulted ALL women of Kalahari?”

Trrrol Toll: “Objection your honor, it is not me who is on trial!”

Yasemin von Engelhardt looks at the King: “Objection denied.”

Samaira Valentina: “Thank you, Afraa”

The King made a weak attempt at an explanation:

Trrrol Toll: “I am not a vegetarian--I love meat, So....if I call women meat....I love them!”

Yasemin von Engelhardt turns shocked at the King's statement.

Motiaa: “ahhhhhhh”

Nilasso laughs

Afraa al Abid: giggles in spite of herself.

But the Defense Solicitor quickly countered:

Samaira Valentina: “I have a signed statement from Minister Ehline, in which she says she clearly heard the King say that ALL women of Kalahari are 'Meat'.” Holds it up to show the court and passes it to Yasemin.

This bombshell description of the events of 4 January astounded the onlookers in the Court Room, and was quickly followed by a brutal question to the King, and the defense then resting its case.

Samaira Valentina: “Your Majesty, could it be that you were you SO drunk in public that you cannot account for your behavior?”

Trrrol Toll: Objection. “It is not me who is on trial.”

Yasemin von Engelhardt looks at the King “Objection approved.”

Samaira Valentina: Turns to the beautiful Judge Yasemin: “Your Honor, Afraa admits to scratching the King but she was driven to it by the drunken, loutish. and misogynistic behavior of our King. I ask you to be lenient with this kind, good hearted, gentle and dedicated servant of our land.

Thank you Judge Meat.....Oh!....I'm sorry.....the King’s words are stuck in my head. Thank you Judge Yasemin, we rest the case for the defense.”

The Moment of Truth

Some interesting byplay occurred where Commander James of the Royal Guard agreed with all that the King said, while his wife, Defense Solicitor Samaira glared at him, and all in the Court knew the Commander was soon to be commanded.

Nilasso, Willow, Motiaa all spoke and the only agreement seemed to be that the King had been drunk.

The King himself seemed to regret his treatment of the lovely and talented Minister:

Trrrol Toll: “I agree. All things have been said. The case is clear. Confession was there.” thinks.....after all....she isn’t too bad.

and this point was not lost on the sharp eyes of Judge Yasemin:

Judge Yasemin issues her verdict

Yasemin von Engelhardt: “Minister Afraa, I've came to a conclusion over all. You are found guilty of attacking a Royal Crowned Head, The King of Kalahari, which is no small act to do, due to your title as a minister. Therefore, I've decided you should receive a punishment. But, before giving you any sentence, I must take into consideration why and what made you act like this. We all know you for a long time and we also know that the word ‘violent’ or ‘impulsive’ does not really characterize you. As Lady Samaira said, all this hard working made you feel stressed and tired and while His Majesty offended your integrity, all these things lead to the premise of a rage. We are all humans and we can understand that sometimes certain working conditions, plus the inappropriate behavior of our leader, can make us feel treated as a tool, not as a human being.”

Afraa al Abid: nods and thinks THIS woman understands.

Yasemin von Engelhardt: “On the other side...you attacked the King of Kalahari, something must be done. Therefore, once again, I must understand your reasons of acting, so for this, I will suspend you for 3 days from you position of Minister. Any objections, Your Majesty? Minister Afraa? People from Kalahari?”

Samaira Valentina: smiles broadly: “No, your honor.”

Afraa al Abid: sags in relief, her worries about "Kalahari Justice" now groundless, and hugs Samaira.

Trrrol Toll: “May I Yasemin? I thank you for your deep considerations and taking into account that Kalahari culture is very important. I also heard the pledge of Afraa herself and we should give her a new chance.  And in the coming three days I nominate Ehline as Interim Minister of Kalahari.”

Ehline: “whooohooo!!”

And with this very interesting appointment, the King initiated the rule of
Minister of Cakes and Wines Ehline.

All glory to Kalahari!
