It was a proud day for the Kalaharian Army, Commander Livia, and the three honorees of course, but all Kalahari, led by the Lion of the Desert King Hassan, glowed with pride as the strength of the new Army was on full display at the Fort on Saturday.

Princess Livia introduced the order of events for the ceremony, and then Minister Nilasso led the assembled throng in a stirring rendition of the National Anthem.

Each back straightened, every eye gleamed with pride as they gazed over the Fort surface, the tropical sunshine calling out every weapon in sharp relief, the proud young warriors glowing with strength and vitality, the aging monarch with his few remaining hairs floating in the gentle breeze, saluting his powerful army, (of course the King removed his turban for the anthem): the Fort was truly a stunning sight.

The commanding and disciplined leader Livia then introduced those to be promoted, and their special skills to the assemblage.

Loki Kengr was cited for his great courage, teamwork and combat skill during training. and he demonstrated tremendous quickness with his axe.

Livia praised Sophie Antoinette le Notre by stating that Sophie is quick with whatever weapon she chooses, so quick, that Livia, herself a noted warrior, has no time to defend herself!

The last recruit mentioned was sawaha, whose service as a naval warrior assumed particular importance when Princess Livia's assistant Haeda displayed a bloody letter from a pirate, who accosted her at Kalahari Landing, boldly challenging the authority of King and country! Princess Livia ordered an immediate alert to all forces to keep an eye out for the dreaded buccaneers.

When the roars of the crowd for the newly promoted subsided, Princess Livia challenged all members of the crowd to join a free-for-all (FFA) combat session.

The Lion of the Desert was exhausted from standing during the ceremony without a slave girl to lean on, so he declined, but brave Rosecynder the intrepid journalist, and Minister Afraa the Clueless volunteered, and soon the fight was on!

After a spirited battle, Sophie won both matches, Loki and Rose gave excellent performances, and Afraa managed to look like a dummy, perhaps as an attempt to camouflage herself from the others. All agreed, however, her costume was quite attractive.

At the end of the day, a radiant Princess Livia invited all to the Tavern, and hosted a joyous gathering of the army, and those they defend.

Kalaharians left the day with full confidence that this army, funded by the King, and created by Princess Livia will join those mythic warriors of the past, such as Hamdoelilah ibn Trrrol, Leader of the Great Trek, and Emir Hussein the Fat, Seducer of Women and Consumer of Croissants, among the annals of the Kingdom's military history.

After the King's welcome to the huge crowd of admirers, the stream of gifts began. What is most informative about these gifts is the variety of those who brought them: visiting royalty, adventurers, Kalahari citizens and slaves, and even a criminal (looking at you, Ehline!)

In fact, the gifts of Ehline, pictures of the King and Queen, were amazingly thoughtful. Unfortunately, Ehline could not be present to award them, and speculation immediately began as to which prison was housing Ehline.

Immediately afterward, the legendary Princess Xingzhen of Cathay brought a delicate cherry blossom tree, a lovely gift emblematic of her native land.

Lady Samaira came next, and the well known winebibber (alcoholist in Dutch ahahaha) of Kalahari, when she is not hiding her stock from Queen Nathalie of Romania, brought a case of her priceless ka-la-na.

The mysterious but beautiful and elegant Scheherazade bint Jafar came next, with the thoughtful gift to desert potentates: a fountain!

The wise and perceptive Sir Peace Furst came next, and managed to please both the King and Queen both with the gift of a throne, which somehow allowed the King to sit in majesty, with the Queen seated at his feet.

Finally, the best man in Kalahari, Abukir Amhr Kofiadou, made with his own hands a beautiful brass candle lamp, to bring light to the Palace, as he himself does every day in Kalahari.

The final gift was a performance by the Kalahari Dancers with the traditional flame dance, bringing heat and light to the ceremony.

Queen Dara and King Hassan then surprised Afraa as they bestowed the Kalaharitzer Award for Journalism to a shocked journalist, who was left speechless, to the general delight and approval of all! (ahahahaha!)

"So, today I have the pleasure to present the very first Kalaharitzer Award in Journalism to Minister Afraa al Abid."

The entertainment portion of the program concluded with a marvelous performance by the internationally renowned entertainer Raefe, whose facility with juggling was matched only by the wit of his comments.

The buoyant King then rose and showed his mastery of the Kingdom, as well as his leadership skills, in announcing the restructuring of the Kingdom.

My dear residents, first, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and that of Dara’s, for this great celebration. This evening shows us how nice, exciting, funny, and surprising, good role play can be.

Recently, Kalahari has built its infrastructure, and we have received many fugitives from countries like Kuwar and Iconia. Wonderful people arrived, but without job, without house, without hope.

In order to give everyone, the chances to participate in the good and fit role play, I have decided to restructure the Governance of our land. The current Ministers, Afraa and Magdy, will get the help of three new Ministers, paid from Government taxes.

Five ministries will be formed:

Afraa on Internal and External Affairs, guiding journalists, diplomats, judges, and so on. (Other roles could include magistrate, advocates, lawyers, librarians, reporters, scribes, teachers.)

Magdy will continue supervising Farming and Mining. (Roles here also include miners, farmers, blacksmith, textile workers.)

Then, I am happy to introduce three new Ministers.

My sister, Princess Livia, will become Minister of Defence, and as such she will support the armies that fight abroad under our courageous commander Sir James El Kalaharian. (Other roles could be guard, warrior, soldier, watchman, police, warden, personal bodyguard.)

Since the Kingdom needs doctors who will supervise our physical and psychological state, I am happy to announce Sir Joe Bandalora as the Minister of Health. (Roles in this Ministry might include doctors, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, herbalists, midwives.)

Then finally, I have asked the current Manager of the Garden of 1001 Pleasures, Nilasso, to become Minister of Commerce, heading dancers, musicians, artists, Bath House and Tavern, traders (state what you trade), merchants (state what you sell: e.g. bakery), bankers, and slavers.)

Now, apart from these Ministers, we would like to encourage everybody in this land to think in which area they would find their living. The Ministers will align the organization of events and buildings in each area, and you all are invited to join one of these areas.

I have changed the arrival point back to the Old Harbor.

And there, you can find an application form, that can be filled out, to describe your family, and to apply for one of the 5 areas. I invite everybody to think at which Ministry they would fit best.

The Ministers will write promotion texts that also can be found at the ad-boards.

The coordination of this administration will be by my Palace slave Zahra bint Trrrol. I understand that this requires reflection, so feel free to ask questions in the coming week.

But now I wish my five Ministers a very good start and I wish you all a nice food and dance party here.
