BETRAYAL!

LADY ROXELANA KIDNAPPED AND ENSLAVED, RANSOM SOUGHT!
LADY MALIKA PLACED UNDER HOUSE ARREST!
CAPTAIN JACK TAKES THE TREACHEROUS MINGHUS ON THE SEARCH!

Shocking developments cascaded upon Kalahari like a desert storm today, with unbelievable twists and turns to the story of poor Lady Roxelana. It is difficult to determine which is more  painful: the enslavement and brutal treatment that Lady Roxelana is still undergoing, or the fact that this betrayal came about from the machinations of Sailmaster Thorgrim, Captain Minghus, and HER BEST FRIEND, LADY MALIKA!

When Minister Afraa welcomed Minghus and Malika back from Alexandria, her joy was quickly turned to concern when the duplicitous duo stated that Roxelana had "disappeared," and her jewelry as well, and a search had turned up no sign of the gracious lady.

Malika's weeping, and moans for her "lost friend" moved Afraa, but warning bells sounded when Captain Minghus demanded that Kalahari pay for the passage of Lady Roxelana. The Minister's suspicions doubled when Malika, supposedly Roxelana's best friend, wanted payment for searching the alleys of Alexandria for her "disappeared" friend! Her suspicions were also voiced by Elyssa Kalaratri, who shared Afraa's concern.

These conspirators might have escaped detection even then, but the timely arrival of Captain Jack Docherty, who managed to smuggle out Roxelana's ransom note, which is printed below, brought the plotting of the evil conspirators to the light of day.

RANSOM NOTE FROM LADY ROXELANA

Dear friends, things went terribly wrong in Alexandria! When Lady Malika and I met with her contact, we found that that the chest that had been under lock and key in her care was now empty. I'm ruined!

She had no way to pay for passage home, as she had been counting on the commission from the sale. For some reason, she thought she could use me as collateral. So now I am in a dungeon recommended by Captain Minghus. Here, and I truly do not know where here is in the world, I am left to the mercies of a man named Bill LeBrave. And he has not shown me mercy, as the drawings he will include in this letter clearly show.

First I was stripped of my dress and undergarments.

 Then they tied me to a pole.

Bill had his way with me.

 Thorgrim came and at first did not recognize me.

I am kept in a cage when not dragged around by a leash.

Malika, before she set sail safely for Kalahari again, promised she could buy me back when she had the money. However the same day, Thorgrim showed up in this dungeon and said horrid things. He offered Bill money to train me, with the understanding he would purchase me later.

But this Bill has dangled one little hope before me. If one of my friends in Kalahari will ransom me for 50 pounds of gold, he will send me back. A penniless widow with no longer even the clothes on my back, but even that would be better than life as a slave!

Please, if you can find it in your heart and your wallet, ransom me back to safety!

ACTIONS TAKEN

One cannot read the above note without a tear in her eye. And the situation presented to King Hassan, who assured Lady Roxelana of Royal Protection, is a complicated one.

Lady Roxelana is clearly under the complete control of experienced slavers in an unknown location, and is being regularly abused and trained.

Lady Malika, Captain Minghus, and Sailmaster Thorgrim are certainly involved in the betrayal. Sir Bill LeBrave seems to be an honest slaver, who is simply handling Roxelana according to the slaver's code, as he was paid to do.

The jewelry is missing, and will be difficult to discover.

Minister Afraa, realizing the King was not scheduled to return until tomorrow for the Storytelling event, swiftly asserted her authority. The underhanded Lady Malika was placed under house arrest in the house of Elyssa Kalaratri, where she will be sleeping on the floor, and will be closely supervised by Elyssa and Kalahari Guards.

Captain Minghus.perhaps realizing that justice for him might be found at the end of a rope, volunteered to place his ship under the command of Captain Jack Docherty, and both sailors will be searching the sea routes between here and Alexandria for Roxelana's hidden location.

And King Hassan himself, humiliated by this betrayal of a person to whom he owed loyalty and protection, will undoubtedly not rest until justice is done.

February is a special month with significance touching the secular, romantic, and spiritual realms. Also, Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th of this month.  So, to celebrate this month of love, Kalahari will organize a special event where you can show your L O V E to our beloved land.

Information

1.  All participants can write a story for example: how they came / arrived in Kalahari [sort of background story] , or other stories about their love for our land.  Creativity is encouraged! Its time to show how much you LOVE Kalahari!!

2.  For the story itself, you can send it on or before 25 February We chose this date to give time so people can write the stories and because we are not sure when the wedding of Ibn Ben Yusuf and Noura will occur.

3.  For the stories there is NO limit for the number of words: just make sure that when you recite the stories you wrote, make sure it will take fewer than 7 minutes.

4.  Winner will get a special prize of  L$500 AND another prize [It's secret!].  There are also special gifts for the ones who participate although they did not win the contest [winks] - L$50.

5. ALL WHO PARTICIPATE WILL HAVE THEIR STORY PUBLISHED IN AN ISSUE OF THE CHRONICLES, ALONG WITH THEIR PICTURE.

The King laid down the gauntlet to Captain Jack Docherty and Captain Minghus, after hearing their tall tales of the sea at the Tavern, as they were plied with food and drink by Tavern Manager Roberta Honey. Stories of wrestling with sea monsters, drinking with Davy Jones, and wenches won and lost at the toss of dice filled the air, and that gave King Hassan an idea.

The wily King decided that the good people of Kalahari could use a spectacle in the Mardi Gras season, the last celebration before Lent, when Christians prepare for the death of Jesus (betrayed by Judas) and his resurrection from the dead.

So the King challenged the captains to use a fist fight to settle who was the toughest sea captain in Kalahari (until the next drinking bout at the Delicious Syrup), and neither Captain could refuse such a challenge as that!

So the fist fight is on. The men will use the G&S HUD and the GM HUD, both of which are available at the dock, using the activating the fist fight setting. And both captains are taking their training seriously, as they were using their fists constantly to down beer at the Tavern.

The generous King offered a stunning prize to the winner: land comprising 3% of the land mass of the entire Kingdom, the location to in New Kalahari! And in addition to the fabulous estate offered by the King, Minister Afraa offered to do a private belly dance for the winner of the fight, and as you might imagine, neither man could contain his excitement!

SHOCKING LATE NEWS FLASH!!!

Two startling developments occurred soon after Captain Minghus left Kalahari Harbor. Many of us are familiar with the secretive Sailmaster Thorgrim, who brought a discredited letter supposedly from the family of Roxelana's late husband Henrik, mentioning the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. We all thought that Thorgrim "lied" to us, and that Arvid's had used his son, Sir A. Oxenstierna, Henrik and Rox' nephew, to write the letter. We were concerned Minghus, Arvid, and A. Oxenstierna, were in league to accuse an innocent widow and steal her dowry.

But Kalahari justice is famed for its evenhanded fairness, and this letter was given to the Kalahari Ancient Scroll Department (KASD) for investigation. Shockingly, the Department authenticated the letter as written with the same parchment, and ink, as previous documents from the foggy land of Finlandia, where Thorgrim claimed it was produced.

While we now know the letter is authentic, we must verify the scandalous accusations contained therein, namely that the gentle Roxelana had murdered her elderly husband, and fled with his jewelry.

And while we still were reeling from that dramatic development, another shocker materialized when Asim al Rachid, Roxelana's loyal bodyguard was found floating at sea by one of the incoming fishing boats. Though his exposure to sun and sea had rendered him almost unconscious, and he could not speak clearly, the sailors heard something like "Betrayal" and "Jewelry gone," before poor Asim fell unconscious. He is being treated in the Kalahari Clinic, with hope of a full recovery. Meanwhile concern heightens for the fates of Ladies Roxelana and Malika, and what could have happened on the open sea.

All Kalaharians are familiar with the story of Lady Roxelana Chronander, whose husband died in one of the mythical Northern Kingdoms. The bereaved widow fled to Kalahari because her husband's family had made baseless charges against her, and the jewelry they claimed she had taken.

Though Lady Roxelana received a warm welcome in the Kingdom, she realized that she needed to sell some of her jewelry to maintain herself, so she determined that she would sail to Alexandria, the famed gem center in Egypt, where she hoped to make a "killing" and thereby solidify her financial condition.

King Hassan himself came to the Dock in order to wish a safe journey to Ladies Roxelana and Malika, Roxelana's dear friend who will provide companionship and friendship. Captain Minghus was sternly warned by the King, in the presence of the ladies, Afraa, and Josie North that Roxelana was under Royal Protection.

In her brief time in Kalahari Lady Roxelana has made many friends, which accounted for the large crowd of well-wishers. In somewhat of a surprise, Sir Bill LeBrave, and his slave Ellie also came to the dock, and Sir Bill seemed very interested in stories of jewelry, journeys, and slaves.

Finally, the tearful goodbyes were said, and Minghus, Roxelana, and Malika boarded the vessel, and to a 3-gun salute, sailed out of Kalahari Harbor for the long journey to Alexandria.

All the glittering people of Kalahari were bursting with anticipation at the news that royalty from the fabled Northern Kingdom of Freyaheim were making a state visit to Kalahari.

We all wondered if these people wore furs? Did they chop off the heads of people who wore jewelry? Did they possess great white bears as big as camels? Did they drink as much as Captain Jack Docherty?

Well, all these questions and more were answered when the Viking longboat docked in Kalahari, met by Lady Josie North, Minister Afraa, and Palace officials. The King welcomed the Konnugr to the Palace

and the Konnugr and Drottning were seated in the Official Head of State Seats in the Palace Throne Room.

The lovely leader of the Lost Jungle of the Maya, Lexia Moonstone joined this high level conference at the King's invitation,

and after the official business, enjoyed a moment with the Drottning Sumina

After the trade negotiations, and other diplomatic business was completed, the official party repaired to the Delicious Syrup Tavern, where Roberta Honey prepared a large spread of food and drink, knowing the Vikings as she does! ahahaha

The Konnugr especially enjoyed the silk outfit, and silken dance moves of the Kalahari dancers

while King Hassan coordinated with Palace Slave Nada on various aspects of the welcome

The party concluded on a high note as Lady Josie prepared Aisha and Nilasso to put on a musical performance

and Nilasso's haunting accompaniment to Aisha's special Wakiyo dance provided the high point of the party.

The stories are pouring in, as all Kalahari welcomes the opportunity Palace Slave Nada Syuhada has afforded them to share their stories with all of us.

Come and hear the height of Kalahari literary imagination.

February is a special month with significance touching the secular, romantic, and spiritual realms. Also, Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th of this month.  So, to celebrate this month of love, Kalahari will organize a special event where you can show your L O V E to our beloved land.

Information

1.  All participants can write a story for example: how they came / arrived in Kalahari [sort of background story] , or other stories about their love for our land.  Creativity is encouraged! Its time to show how much you LOVE Kalahari!!

2.  For the story itself, you can send it on or before 25 February We chose this date to give time so people can write the stories and because we are not sure when the wedding of Ibn Ben Yusuf and Noura will occur.

3.  For the stories there is NO limit for the number of words: just make sure that when you recite the stories you wrote, make sure it will take fewer than 7 minutes.

4.  Winner will get a special prize of  L$500 AND another prize [It's secret!].  There are also special gifts for the ones who participate although they did not win the contest [winks] - L$50.

5. ALL WHO PARTICIPATE WILL HAVE THEIR STORY PUBLISHED IN AN ISSUE OF THE CHRONICLES, ALONG WITH THEIR PICTURE.

The King laid down the gauntlet to Captain Jack Docherty and Captain Minghus, after hearing their tall tales of the sea at the Tavern, as they were plied with food and drink by Tavern Manager Roberta Honey. Stories of wrestling with sea monsters, drinking with Davy Jones, and wenches won and lost at the toss of dice filled the air, and that gave King Hassan an idea.

The wily King decided that the good people of Kalahari could use a spectacle in the Mardi Gras season, the last celebration before Lent, when Christians prepare for the death of Jesus (betrayed by Judas) and his resurrection from the dead.

So the King challenged the captains to use a fist fight to settle who was the toughest sea captain in Kalahari (until the next drinking bout at the Delicious Syrup), and neither Captain could refuse such a challenge as that!

So the fist fight is on. The men will use the G&S HUD and the GM HUD, both of which are available at the dock, using the activating the fist fight setting. And both captains are taking their training seriously, as they were using their fists constantly to down beer at the Tavern.

The generous King offered a stunning prize to the winner: land comprising 3% of the land mass of the entire Kingdom, the location to in New Kalahari! And in addition to the fabulous estate offered by the King, Minister Afraa offered to do a private belly dance for the winner of the fight, and as you might imagine, neither man could contain his excitement!
